- What does the one-legged carry and triangle crush mean to Masahiro Iwasaki?
■Turning a "susceptible to triangle choke" into a great opportunity The advantage of the one-legged carry is that you can start in a position similar to a pass guard by placing one arm on the outside or behind your opponent. On the other hand, the biggest disadvantage is that you are highly susceptible to a triangle choke attack. For this reason, some athletes do not attempt the one-legged carry.
In real matches, it is not uncommon for a middle-weight or lightweight to win by triangle choke against a heavyweight who has a seiza base. Attacking the upper body against a low base is a standard move, and is the biggest enemy when aiming for a one-legged guard pass.
This book will thoroughly introduce the prescription (how to finish) of triangle choke for those who take a seiza/squatting base. Reduce the opponent's options, make them aim for a triangle choke, and as a counter, pass guard with one leg lift. This is a tactic that Iwasaki sensei is good at.
If the main theme of this work is "learning the one-legged carry technique from scratch," the hidden theme can be said to be "crushing (finishing) a triangle choke." This is also the reason for the title "Triangle Crush."
The concept of "triangle crushing" is incorporated throughout this work.
・One-legged carry makes it easy to get caught in a triangle choke / One-legged carry makes it easy to break ・Deliberately let your opponent try for a triangle choke and then take a pass guard with a counter ・How to safely escape if you are trapped in a triangle choke
Even if your opponent attempts a triangle choke, if you keep your opponent in a weak position with just your toes crossed, your chances of success with a single-legged guard pass will increase dramatically.
■ "You can't win if you compete with everyone else." "Take risks to make a breakthrough."
At the end of the work, the process by which Professor Iwasaki mastered the "single leg carry/triangle crush" is discussed.
When Mr. Iwasaki first became a black belt, he often lost to triangle chokes, and other athletes constantly told him, "It's too risky, so you should stop using the one-legged hold."
However, he is prepared to take on the risks and has successfully developed the "triangle choke" into one of his favorite tactics. He uses it to lure opponents into a triangle choke, then break it and use it to pass the guard or take the back.

(From 3:11, he is also caught in a triangle choke by Kleber Koike)
It is said that this manual also serves as a deterrent by making people realize that "triangles won't work on this person."
If the triangle choke doesn't work against a seiza/squatting opponent, and there's a high risk of it being passed, then an opponent lacking an offensive move won't be able to use a relaxed strategy. Another big advantage of the triangle crush tactic is that it excels in this psychological warfare.
We recommend incorporating "triangle crush" as one of your tactics in conjunction with the previous game's "Ironclad Inside Guard" (a strategy based on sitting upright and squatting).

"This is going to be a really good game! It's a technique that can turn a pinch into an opportunity. Almost everyone uses the triangle technique, so learning how to defend and counter it will be very beneficial!"
