■Innovative aspects of this textbook
Everyone wants to win a match by submission, but most matches are decided on points.
In close matches, the outcome is often decided by just one advantage.
Even if players have the same skill level, the winning rate of a match will be very different between someone who can use the rules well and someone who cannot.
For this production, we invited Tomoyuki Hashimoto, a world-class player, to give instruction on how to "understand the rules and use them to your advantage."
In gym classes, specific offensive and defensive aspects of a match are rarely discussed.
This is because only a portion of Jiu-Jitsu athletes compete in competitions.
Have you ever had the experience of giving up an advantage that you didn't need to lose due to lack of knowledge?
I hope you will compare it with your own past matches.
■ Structure of this work
(See the bottom of this page for a detailed table of contents.)
It is broadly divided into the following five parts.
(1) Retraction
(2) Double Guard
(3) Offense and defense on the outside of the ring
(4) Moves that do not give an advantage when guarded
(5) Offense and defense that skillfully utilizes the rules
■(1) Attraction
Pulling techniques are necessary not only under JBJJF (IBJJF) rules, but also under ASJJF rules, which do not have an advantage.
Especially in lightweight matches, the match often becomes a battle of wits, and conceding a point early on can have a major impact on the outcome of the match.
Safe retraction
・How to take 2 points from an opponent trying to pull you in
・If you pull it without knowing, it will be a bad move that will cost you 2 points.
■(2) Double Guard
When it comes to double guard, most fighters use these three moves.
・Select the top
・Berimbolo
- Submissions (triangle choke, foot lock)
It also explains how to deal with opponents who are wary of berimbolo, as well as ways to force your opponent to take the top position.
This is a must-see technique for anyone who wants to start from the guard.
■ (3) Offense and defense on the outside of the ring
All the top players know this, but many people don't.
We explain different situations, such as whether you should choose to restart from a standing position or which submission you should aim for to corner your opponent.
We provide know-how based on the rules of the match and refereeing operations.
■(4) Moves that don't give an advantage when guarding
This is mainly something to be careful of when guarding.
If you have an attitude of "it's OK as long as the pass isn't guarded" during regular practice, it will lead to unexpected points being conceded during a game.
You will be instructed on how to respond when your pass guard is about to be taken, and on retention techniques that do not give an advantage to a carried pass.
■ (5) Offense and defense that skillfully utilizes the rules
It also introduces ways to prevent your opponent from gaining an advantage even when your pass is being guarded, and ways to go from top to bottom without conceding points.
This is know-how that only players competing at the top level, where every advantage counts, know.
