He started jiu jitsu in his native Canada at the age of 12, and has traveled to Brazil many times since the age of 16. He became a black belt at the age of 24. He then moved to GF Team, based in Rio de Janeiro, and won many matches in Brazil. He made it to the top eight at the Mundial for two consecutive years. In 2018, he was the runner-up at the Abu Dhabi World Pro. He won the World Masters (M1).
