■ The receiver falls without realizing that the situation has reached its peak.
This is a video of Mr. Aoki instructing the shoulder lock technique. Please take a look at this first.

If you get it in cleanly, it won't take more than 5 seconds and your opponent won't even have to tap it. (Please be careful when practicing.)
Even after you get the shoulder lock in place, it often takes time to get the tap out.
However, if the carotid artery is compressed effectively, the tap can be achieved in less than 10 seconds.
■ Misconceptions about shoulder lock
I'm sure there are many people who perform the shoulder lock, which involves "pushing your opponent's arm diagonally upwards with your head, while holding it in place like a sash."
The shoulder lock in this tutorial accurately compresses the opponent's carotid artery without relying on arm strength.
The details of the techniques will probably be different from any class you have attended before, and there are probably few other classes that explain the key points in such detail.
■ Five points for perfect shoulder lock
1. Elbow height of the arm to be inserted
This is the point that few people are aware of. It is also important to pay attention to how you handle the device after inserting it.
② Position of clasped hands
Aoki's shoulder lock is set at a low position. Please check ⑤ for why he sets it at this position and the position of your head.
③How do you clasp your hands?
Many people are familiar with the thumbless grip. But do you pay attention to the position of your fingers when using the thumbless grip?
Depending on the position of your fingers, the degree to which your armpits open or close will change.
④ Position to lower your body
If you are unable to complete the technique even after getting into the kata, you may have to pull the arm you are clutching with all your strength.
If you understand where the shoulder lock applies pressure, you can respond to multiple scenarios.
This tutorial explains the steps to finish from side, half guard and mount positions.
⑤Face position
This is the finishing touch. Steps ① to ③ can be done, and the position of your face is important to make step ④ effective.
It goes into detail not only about head position but also face orientation.
■Common mistakes made when wearing a judo uniform
This tutorial explains the shoulder lock technique in no-gi (grappling), but also explains common mistakes that are made when wearing a gi. First, learn how to control it in no-gi, then try it in gi.
■ Controlling your opponent
Even if you can get into side position, if your opponent is an intermediate or higher level wrestler, they will be wary of a shoulder lock and it will be difficult to get your hands or head behind their shoulder.
In order to perform a shoulder lock, you must induce your opponent to raise their arm or lift their shoulder.
This book focuses on side position and explains how to wear down your opponent and get into the shoulder lock position. This section is not limited to shoulder lock, but also teaches you how to respond after passing the guard.
I think Shinya Aoki's shoulder lock procedure is different from what I've learned on YouTube or in class so far.
However, the effect is as shown in the video at the beginning, so please give it a try.
[Recommendations/Customer Reviews]
■ Tomoyuki Hashimoto (IBJJF World No. 3, 4th consecutive All Japan Championship winner)
"In competitive jiu-jitsu, where points are awarded, the focus is on the technique of getting points, and the understanding of submission tends to be shallow. I think it's rare to find a fighter who can provide high-quality instruction in submission. Aoki is an expert in this area, and his technique is unmistakable. I'm not very good at shoulder locks, so I'll buy this book and study."
